Duskers 2.0 Funded by Stray Signal: A Technical Indie Sequel
Misfits Attic announces Duskers 2.0, funded by Stray Signal, with a teaser trailer and plans for a more emotive, higher-stakes sequel to the award-winning strategy game.

Misfits Attic has announced Duskers 2.0, a sequel to the acclaimed strategy game Duskers, funded by Max McGuire's project fund Stray Signal. The teaser trailer debuted during the PC Gaming Show, and the game is now available for wishlisting on Steam.
Funding and Technical Backing
Stray Signal, founded by Max McGuire (co-founder of Unknown Worlds, creators of Subnautica and Natural Selection 2), is providing project funding. McGuire, known for building the custom Spark Engine for Natural Selection 2 and heavily customizing Unity for Subnautica, will also contribute directly to the Duskers 2.0 codebase. This technical involvement from a seasoned engine developer is a notable aspect of the deal.
From Prototype to Sequel
The original Duskers, released a decade ago, is a tense, resource-management game where players control drones to salvage derelict spaceships. It won over 20 awards and holds a 90% positive Steam rating. The sequel promises higher stakes and a more emotive story, building on the original's isolated, adrenaline-fueled gameplay loop.
Misfits Attic has been using equity-based prototype funding from Elbow Grease Games to de-risk development, producing three prototypes including the now-shipped Below the Crown (96% positive on Steam, IGF honorable mention). Duskers 2.0 emerged from this pipeline.
Industry Context
This funding model—project funds from experienced developers like McGuire—reflects a shift in indie game financing, moving away from traditional publisher deals toward community-driven, technical partnerships. For engineers, the involvement of a veteran engine programmer in a game's codebase is a reminder that hands-on technical leadership can be a strategic advantage in game development.
